Garlic & Brown Sugar Chicken

Last week I was completely clueless about what to make for dinner one night, but wanted something new and different. Ok honestly, we really needed groceries from the store, but was not feeling like going out. Trying to think of something to cook with the ingredients that I had on hand was somewhat a challenge that I did not care to wrack my brain over. Next best thing?? Turn to Pinterest! I decided that being even more lazy was part of the plan that day and busted out the Crock Pot and got to work on finding a recipe. After several minutes, I settled on....

Garlic & Brown Sugar Chicken!

Don't give me those looks, people! I know you think it sounds weird! Trust me, I did too! Wait until you try this, though! It is so delicious, fall apart, juicy, sweet and savory chicken. I got a two thumbs up from Bryan, meaning this will be made again!

What you need:

1 large chicken, cut into serving pieces ( I used chicken breasts)
1 cup packed brown sugar
2/3 cup vinegar
1/4 cup Sprite or 7-Up soda
2-3 tablespoons minced garlic
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon pepper (regular black or cayenne)

What to do:
Place chicken in slow cooker.
Mix all ingredients and pour over chicken.
Cook on low for 6-8 hours (you can thicken the juices after cooking with a little cornstarch).

You should definitely try this one out! You will be pleasantly surprised!

buon appetito!

Friday's Fashion: It's Time For A Picnic!!!

Yay, who doesn't love a nice picnic on a warm day? I definitely enjoy the warm sun on my face and relaxing with some wine! The last time I had a picnic, Tammy and I planned a surprise picnic for our guys for Valentine's Day! We had wine, and made heard shaped chicken salad sandwiches! Little did I know, later that evening I would be proposed to and engaged to be married! This makes me feel like I should have a picnic soon. Maybe at the beach? Brendan would love that!! Hmmm....

Picnic outfit

Joe Browns dress, £27 - This dress just seems perfect for a picnic in a garden or a park! I love the floral print and the ruffled collar!
MICHAEL Michael Kors sandals, $120 - Don't these wedges look so comfy?? I can imagine walking around for awhile in these babies!
Butter London shoes, $14 - This nail polish is just so fresh and bright! A perfect little pop of color!
Marc Fisher shoulder bag, $98 - This bag reminds me of a picnic basket....maybe a glam-picnic basket?
Blue Nile bracelet, $860 - The linked chain bracelet is a casual yet pretty accessory.
Marie Hélène de Taillac ring, £1,885 - I love the stones in this ring. They really compliment the dress well!
Helen Kaminski hat, 245 CAD - The perfect hat to finish off the look!
Prada sunglasses, $287 - Don't forget to protect those eyes!

Happy Friday!!!

Brendan's 1st Birthday Party

A couple of weeks ago, we had Brendan's 1st Birthday Party. This took a lot of planning and preparation but it was worth every minute! We are so glad that so many of our friends and family could join us in celebrating his first year! Thank goodness for our best friends, Tammy and Nadav for coming early to help us prepare, and keep Brendan occupied! They are also responsible for all of the beautiful pictures seen in this blog post. I seriously don't know what I would do without friends like them!

The morning started off with me running around like a chicken with my head cut off, and then Tammy and Nadav arrived with this....

True story, but not long after Brendan was born, Tammy asked me if she could buy him his first Sprinkles cupcake for his 1st Birthday. I said "sure!". Well, Tammy definitely came through, and this topic was discussed at various points throughout the last year!

Tammy even decided she would be getting Brendan a Red Velvet cupcake. Yep, there it is....

Brendan's first encounter with a cupcake. He appears to be making his plan of attack. It's almost as if he is saying, 'How do I approach this?? What is that? Am I supposed to eat that??'

Ummm, yeah. He figured that out pretty quick. Don't worry...he didn't eat the whole thing! He only ate half of it.

Yay Elmo!!

The cake!

Brendan's cake! Strictly for smashing!

Family effort to blow out that big bad "1" !

Brendan had no issues figuring out what to do with this cake, after his prior experience in the morning with his cupcake! Yeah, not to worry, he hardly ate this one!

Me and my wife bestie!

Brendan attempting to unwrap one of his gifts!

An animated hound dog was definitely one of Brendan's favorites. Of course, our little professor had to study him for awhile.

Brendan's birthday party was super fun and memorable, but definitely left us exhausted! I still cannot believe that my baby is already a whole year old!

Ok, no more sappy sappy.... have a great day, everyone!

Just Unmotivated.....

My other blog posts are typically upbeat at fun, but I think I am going to just switch it up for a more serious post today. Honestly, I have just been feeling very unmotivated to write blog posts. It feels like a chore the past week and a half. I don't want to feel this way, but I do. Don't get me wrong, I love blogging, and I think I am just in a funk. Seriously, life has been hectic lately, and many things have been getting me down. Finding enough things that are generally really enjoyable that I want to write about, seem scarce. I plan and do fun activities, but my thoughts and emotions of what is troubling me seem to interfere, and the fun memories I should have, are clouded over leaving me with foggy visions. I know many of us have moments like this, but as bloggers, we rarely share these moments with our readers. I feel like I need to be real. Lets face it, we as humans cannot be happy all of the time. I think it's important for bloggers to accept this, and feel comfortable with expressing that they are feeling low, if they want to. I don't think that a blog should turn into a therapy session or anything, because that will definitely lose readers! Because really, who wants to read a sad blog??? I just hope by expressing this, it will help connect other bloggers and make them see that we are all alike and that we can relate to each other. I have been thinking about a lot of things lately and just trying to cope with changes that are occurring, things that I should change, and how to cope with the things I am afraid I will never be able to change. I will get through this. I am positive of this!

Friday's Fancies: Floral

Ahhhh, nothing like floral prints to make a girl feel really girly! I love floral, but it has to be the right floral, and definitely the right amount! When {AV} asked us to put together an outfit that was inspired by floral patterns, I honestly had a little trouble with this one! I love all the patterns I am seeing for the Spring, but floral pattern can be quite busy and overwhelming! I almost had this outfit complete late last night, but I had to stop! I couldn't look at floral patterns anymore! With a little sleep and a new morning, I was able to create this outfit below, that I am quite pleased with!

Friday's Fancies: Floral

ISOLA MARRAS silk shirt, £95 -  Awesome!! My should be dress, is actually a shirt.... let's just pretend it is a dress and  call it a day. This would be a fabulous dress, no? I love the large roses and the contrast of the border at the bottom!
N.Y.L.A. platform wedge sandals, $50 - I love these shoes!! The gray and tan compliment each other really well!
Friis Company pink clutch, €38 - This is such a fun clutch, in a great color pulled from the color of some roses in the dress. I love the buckle on this clutch, as well.
Astley Clarke flower ring, $180 - I love the subtle pinky-peach hue of this stone!
Kimberly McDonald diamond bangle, £1,995 - I like the dainty yet chunky look of this piece.
Essie nail polish, $8 - I looove this color polish! I think I might need to go buy it. Seriously. It's so pretty!

Happy Friday, Bloggies!
